Are you an inspiring educator with a solid academic foundation and a passion for student success? Elk Grove High School is searching for an ESL/English Teacher who thrives on engaging with students, both academically and in extracurricular activities.

The ESL & English teacher provides direct academic services to a designated group of students in sheltered ESL classes. The teacher develops and implements academic plans and interventions which help students achieve both ISBE goals and WIDA language targets. Additionally, the teacher may instruct non-sheltered English courses at various levels.

Qualifications We're Seeking:

  • Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with endorsements in both Senior HS English and ESL is required.
  • Three or more years successfully working as a classroom teacher serving English Language Learners is preferred
  • Fluency in Spanish and/or a Slavic language is preferred.

Specific Duties:

  • Academically prepared to teach all courses in literature and composition.
  • Willingness and ability to teach courses at various academic levels.
  • Ability to directly instruct reading, writing, and grammar.
  • Ability to directly teach skills that support student success on state assessments.
  • Demonstrate educational planning, including setting short- and long-term goals and assessment of these goals.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of modifications and accommodations, and implementation in both a resource classroom and inclusion setting.
  • Commitment to working with an interdisciplinary or integrated team: designing, implementing, and refining curriculum.
  • Demonstrate a willingness to work cooperatively with other teachers in the English/Fine Arts Division to develop common assessments and support existing programs.
  • Commitment to working with a coordinated curriculum that targets external assessment in the design and delivery of its content.
  • Readiness to implement a digital curriculum (1:1 iPad instruction).
  • Supports ESL documentation, compliance, and coordination of services.
  • Collaborates with building leadership and staff to ensure equity is infused in practice and remains at the forefront of efforts to disrupt inequities.
  • Willingness to support building co-curricular activities as a coach or sponsor.
  • Performs other tasks assigned by the building administration.
